CMS is now accepting submissions for quality and cost measures for future MIPS years. This process allows medical professionals, including clinicians and researchers, to propose measures for consideration in CMS programs. The open submission period began on January 31, 2024, and will end on May 10, 2024.
CMS is looking for quality measures that align with the Meaningful Measures 2.0 Framework Domains. The Meaningful Measures 2.0 Framework is a CMS initiative that aims to modernize and enhance the relevancy of Quality measures in order to decrease the number of measures and ease the burden on measured entities. The submitted measures should address important topics and gaps identified by CMS.
For cost measures, CMS will consider measures that focus on specialties with limited episode-based cost measures and emphasize high-priority clinical topics for future MIPS Value Pathway (MVP) development.
Submissions can be made through the CMS Measures Under Consideration Entry/Review Information Tool (MERIT). This tool must be used to submit all required measure specifications and supporting data files before the deadline at 8 p.m. ET on May 10, 2024. Only candidate quality and cost measures submitted by this date will be considered for inclusion in the MIPS quality or cost performance categories.
To find out more about using the CMS MERIT tool and other resources for this process, refer to the CMS MERIT Quick Start Guide for Submitters. For more detailed information regarding pre-rule making, cost measures, and other questions about the process, clinicians can contact MMSsupport@battelle.org.
